So many of our ancient stories revolve around ghosts, that these characters are really ingrained in the collective consciousness. Anything that goes bump in the middle of the night sets our minds racing and before you know it, we are seeing phantoms floating out of the wall (or is that just me?)
Notable literary works featuring ghosts are Shakespeare's Hamlet, where his father returns from the dead to warn him of his Stepfathers murdering past and Dickens' A Christmas Carol where we see a host of spirits working to make Scrooge a better person.
In fancy dress terms ghosts are worth their weight in ectoplasm! There are two ways to go ghoulish, you could purchase a great costume like the one pictured here, this is from our pals at www.fancydress.com , alternatively you can wear you own clothing and make yourself up. Fancydress.com stocks a range of great make-up from translucent white shades, Old Age (a cake make up that washes the colour out of your skin) or even a shade called corpse!
