You do not have to look like Hell to go to a Fancy Dress Party! Many people do not want to go to any party where they have to look like something the Devil has spat out just to get in! The news is that they don’t have to!

Firstly if you decide to go in costume make sure it’s a good one and that it fits well, otherwise you could wear your own clothing and dress it up with Make-up. But whether you are dressing a something from the Crypt or a car crash you can glam it up to look your best.

Don’t try to be too adventurous. You should make-up for a party not spend the whole party making yourself up. A few simple tips will ensure that by keeping it simple you can create a stunning effect.

Practice! If you are trying an effect for the first time or in some cases wearing make-up for the first time, then practice. A single pancake make-up will cover many faces so don’t leave things until half an hour before you leave to have a go.

Add eyelashes - using pale foundations and washing colour out of your face can produce quite a startling effect. So why not "go for it?" All you need to do is use a good eyeliner top and bottom and then add a big set of falsies - that’s eyelashes - steady boys!!! Finish with some dramatic shading and bingo a great result for next-to-no effort.

If you are intending to wear a dark lipstick make it very dark. Black is best, but even on deep red you can add a layer of glitter tip cream, either in solid colours or use one of our perlised shades. Take some of the cream on the tip of a finger and simply dab it on, don’t rub it along the lips as that will lessen the effect. Remember to take the tube with you to reapply and get kissing everyone!

A rice-crispy makes one of the best cold-sores around. Simply glue one to the top lip, use spirit gum or eyelash glue PLEASE (never use any other glues on the face). Let it dry completely. Press down hard with your thumb, the surface of the rice-crispy will cave-in leaving you a rather nasty crater which you can fill with a single drop of blood.

Try to steer clear of white foundation - please. At Halloween white is the most requested shade, but any Fancy Dress Shop with any style will encourage most revellers to steer clear of white, unless you’re going as a clown (personally they scare the pants off me!) 2 suggestions for a better effect, "Corpse" a sallow yellowish tone or better still use "Old Age". Either way they are both Pancake make-up, giving a great smooth effect and if used thinly they wash out some colour from your complexion but are translucent; this means that the tones and contours of your own complexion will still show through and you’ll avoid the stark, flat clown effect.

Use a brown or beige shade to emphasise the structure of the face. Rather than going for black use a more natural tone in the eye sockets and under the cheekbones. Don’t use it like blusher, you’re not meant to be trying to warm up the face, us it under the bone to make hollows.

Horror Make-up Masterclass!

Make an impact with these shockingly good make-up effects!

Ooooooh, that cut looks nasty...

Shockingly realistic cut effect!

Get all you need to produce this effect, and others, from Angels Fancy Dress, the leading fancy dress shop in the UK. You can find the "cut kit" used in this how-to right here!

Step 1. Get some wax!

Step 1.

Peel some wax from the tub.

Do not dig a lump out as it will be hard to work with.

Think of it like spreading butter straight from the fridge...

Step 2. Work the wax!

Step 2.

Kneed the wax.

This is to warm it up and make it easier to work with. Push it into the heel of your hand and then scrape it off, do this twice. If it is lumpy do this once more, but do not overwork it or it will become too light and soft.

Step 3. Apply the wax!

Step 3.

Make sure the skin is clean and dry. Apply the wax to the area that you want to have a wound using the wide flat end of the spatula.

This end of the spatula curves downward. With the product on this area simply press it onto the skin (you may need to press quite hard), as you drag the tool away the wax will spread onto the area of the wound.

Step 4. Make it look nasty!

Step 4.

Handy tip - if the wax looks too rough use a tiny bit of moisturiser on your fingertip (enough to stop the wax sticking to your finger and no more). Run the finger over the rough edges and they will become smooth. Don't be too precise and do not overwork the wax.

Make a cut in the wound using the narrow end of the spatula.

Step 5. Add the blood!

Step 5.

Add the blood!

Angels blood is very realistic and second to none. It will run slowly and eventually dry (drying time depends on how much blood you use!) so add only a small amount of blood - you can always add more once it has run its course.

Bullet in the Forehead!

High Impact bullet effect!

Get all you need to produce this effect, and others, from Angels Fancy Dress, the leading fancy dress shop in the UK. You can find the "cut kit" used in this how-to right here!

Step 1. Get some wax!

Step 1.

Peel some wax from the tub.

Again, don't dig a lump out at once, as it will be hard to work with.

Start with a small scoop and build it up.

Step 2. Work the wax!

Step 2.

Roll the wax into a sausage and then join the ends to make a ring of wax. Press the ring of wax into position, making sure the skin is clean and dry.

Step 3. Mould the wax!

Step 3.

Using a tiny bit of moisturiser on your fingertip (enough to stop the wax sticking to your finger and no more) blend the outside edges of the ring of wax, you should not be too precise as slightly rough edges look more realistic.

Step 4. Make the bullet hole shape!

Step 4.

Hold your finger against the outside edge of the bullet hole and drag the tool from the inside towards the outside, the wax will work its way over the supporting finger, giving a ragged edge.

You must use a finger to support the wound otherwise you'll pull it away from its position.

Step 5. Fine-tune the bullet-hole!

Step 5.

Using a tiny bit of moisturiser on your fingertip (enough to stop the wax sticking to your finger and no more) blend the outside edges of the ring of wax, you should not be too precise as slightly rough edges look more realistic.

Pancake Hits and Tips!

Finished Pancake Make-up!

Pancake is a wonderful make up, easily applied and removed, giving great coverage but also allowing some of the tones of the skin to show through. If you follow the hints and tips below you should have no trouble achieving a great effect. Depth of colour can be adjusted by applying a thinner layer, or for deeper colour it can be applied slightly thicker. If you require an opaque coverage try Angels' face paint.

Before you start make sure that the face is clean and dry, do not apply moisturiser. It is advisable to wash your face 20 or 30 minutes before you make up (your skin may produce oil just after washing and this allows the skin to calm down).

Get all you need to produce this effect, and others, from Angels Fancy Dress, the leading fancy dress shop in the UK. You can find the "pancake make-up" used in this how-to right here!

Step 1. Get some wax!

Step 1.

Cut the sponge into quarters, this will give you a nice sharp edge for details like under eyes. You will need an open foam sponge, not the white latex triangles used with fashion cosmetics, our make up sponges are usually round (although colour may vary) and are designed to pick up and hold the colour until you apply it to the face.

Rinse out the sponge, squeeze it until it is almost dry (known as a humid sponge) you do not want it wet, as the make up will simply run. Rub the sponge round the pancake until one side of the sponge has picked up colour.

Step 2. Dab it on!

Step 2.

Wipe and dab the sponge over the face recharging the sponge when the colour starts to get thin. Do not go over areas that are covered as you will wipe off the make up. Concentrate on areas like the under eye, you need to get as close as possible to the lashes. Try sitting down with a mirror on your lap, looking down into the mirror and pushing the sharp edge of the sponge up against the lashes.

Step 3. Attention to detail!

Step 3.

Pushing your hair away from the face work into the hairline, we have chosen to stop the make up at the jaw line, this gives a mask like effect, if you were to paint your face green to look like a witch it would look better if the make up extended down to your costume. Pancake can also be used on your hands, but it will come off on items that you touch.

Step 4. You're done! Easily remove with water when required.

Step 4.

You're finished!

When you're ready to remove the make-up, simply wash your face as pancake is water-based!

Applying False Eyelashes!

High Impact Eyelashes!

Eyelashes are one of those things that really makes a difference. We've used very big ones here as it makes it easier for you to see what we are doing. We stock more subtle versions that look more natural but really do add a special edge to any look. Firstly you need to start with clean dry skin, if you are applying a base make its best to leave a gap of clean skin. You can apply eyeliner first (but not where you want to stick the lashes).

Get all you need to produce this effect, and others, from Angels Fancy Dress, the leading fancy dress shop in the UK. You can find the false eyelashes used in this how-to, and many more right here!

Step 1. Flex those eyelashes! Trim if required.

Step 1.

Note that our model has a little mascara so you can see her real lashes.
Take the eyelashes out of the packet and gently flex them a few times, this makes them a little softer and easier to work with. Offer them up to your eye to see if they need trimming. When measuring take the measurement from where your natural lashes start, note that they do not grow from the tear duct, if you attach lashes there you will make your eyes water!

If the lashes are too wide for your eye, trim off the bit that is not required from the outside edge.

Step 2. Apply the glue!

Step 2.

Open the tube of glue, put a spot of it on the back of your hand. Holding your lashes in the hand with the glue on it use the head end of a pin, or a cocktail stick to pick some glue up and run a tiny bit around the band of the lashes. Never apply glue directly to the eye, and never attempt to add glue to stuck on lashes with any sharp object. Give the glue a few moments to go tacky (dont worry about the colour of the glue it will dry clear). NEVER use anything other than eyelash adhesive to attach lashes.

Step 3. Apply the lashes!

Step 3.

Stick the lashes in position by lowering them gently onto your own lashes and then push them onto the skin near the base of your lashes, very gently dab them into place. You can either shut one eye, rest your elbow on the dressing table to steady it and then lower them into place or a great tip is to put a hand mirror in your lap and look down into the mirror.

Step 4. You're ready to go!

Step 4.

Finished!

All you need to do is touch up your foundation, and you can flutter all night!

Step 4. Removing the lashes!

Step 5. Removal.

Hold down the skin next to the eye and with the other hand hold the lash, gently pull the lash away, remember you should have used a very small amount of glue so there should be very little to remove. Use any eye make up remover to clean away any traces of glue.

Put the lashes back in the box carefully and they can be used again and again.

Applying Temporary Tattoos!

Temporary tattoo!

This looks really simple, that's because it is! The tattoos come with instructions, they are the same for large designs like the one shown here or smaller ones like zits, scabs, cuts and many more.

Temporary tattoos are available from Angels Fancy Dress, the leading fancy dress shop in the UK. Check out the selection right here!

Step 1. Preparation!

Step 1.

Ensure that the skin in clean and free of oils and make up

Remove the clear protective cover from the tattoo

Step 2. Cut to size!

Step 2.

Carefully cut around the design that you want to use.

Step 3. Apply the tattoo!

Step 3.

Press the tattoo firmly onto clean dry skin facing down. Hold a wet cloth against the paper backing (we are using a make up sponge, but you can use any cloth or cotton wool). Press down to wet the paper thoroughly, but make sure you do not move the paper. Leave for 30 seconds, don't rush this bit, wait for the water to soak through the backing paper.

Step 4. Carefully remove the backing!

Step 4.

Slowly and gently lift off paper backing.

Gently rinse image with water for best effect.

Step 5. Youn're done!

Step 5.

Finished!

Removal: To remove saturate tattoo with rubbing alcohol or baby oil, wait 10 seconds and then rub away tattoo with cotton ball.

Fitting Devil Horns!

Using Devil Horns!

These horns are a massive seller at Halloween, they are made of soft rubbery foam, they are lightweight and easy to wear. You will need to stick them to clean dry skin. Some of the staff at our Fancydress friend's Central London Store wear these on the days where they dress up for Halloween and are in them for 12 hours!

They are available from Angels Fancy Dress, the leading fancy dress shop in the UK. The horns shown in this demonstration can be found right here!

Step 1. Marking the position.

Step 1.

Hold the horn in position on clean dry skin and then using a powder puff or cotton wool dab around the edges of the horn with fixing powder (or talcum powder will do) to mark where it will go.

Step 2. Add glue Step 2. Add glue

Step 2.

Apply a layer of glue to the clean area of skin marked out by the powder.
AND
Add glue to the bottom of the horn. The glue goes on kind of watery, leave both areas of glue to become tacky. Then press the horn in position and support whilst it finishes drying.

Step 3. Finished!

Step 3.

Finished!
You could make up the face red, or whatever effect you desire, below we have an optional extra to make it look a little more gory!

Step 4. Add wax

Step 4.

Optional Steps
Using the wax, tool and blood supplied in our cut kit, roll out a section of wax and add this all around the base of the horn (you can find out more about this by using steps 1 and 2 of our bullet hole guidelines). Once you have taken the wax all the way around the base of the horns blend it in with a tiny bit of moisturizer (just enough to stop the wax sticking to your fingers).

Step 5. Add blood

Step 5.

Add blood, here we have just added a small amount of blood to the horn base. You could paint the horns all over with blood if you prefer! Removal: Scrape the wax away with the tool, soak a piece of cotton wool in the glue remover, and work under the edge of the horn, gently lifting it away from the skin. You are advised not to simply pull the horns off. Then clean the skin up with the glue remover. Any residue will then wash away. Wash the blood off the skin with warm soapy water.

Fitting your Fangs!

Fit your fangs correctly

Fancydress.com's Custom Fang range is absolutely fang-tastic (sorry).

The kits contain fangs, moulding powder, hardener, stirring sticks and a handy carrying case that doubles up as a mixing pot; along with makers instructions.

Pack shot

For this 'How-to' we have used regular custom fangs. This is a guide only. You will need to refer to the details supplied with your teeth as they may differ.

Remember, there's enough mix to do each tooth twice, so should you get it wrong you can either try again or re-mould over the top of the first layer.

Step 1. Initial positioning

Step 1

Take the fangs out of the package, look in a mirror and slip them on and off your teeth. They are hollow so they will just fall off, so keep hold of them.

Check the front and back, in the best position, once you add the fitting paste you will only get a good fit if you slide them straight up onto the tooth, if you adjust the position whilst moulding them the fit will not be as tight. So practice at this stage!

Step 2. Mix the paste

Step 2

Gently twist the ends of ONE capsule and pour the powder from it into the deep side of the carrying case. Tilt the case slightly so that the powder is not spread out. Snap off the bottle top and add 5 drops to the powder, mix with the stick provided for 15-20 seconds, until the mixture is uniform and begins to get pasty. Whilst doing this keep the mix in one small area of the case rather than spreading it out and wasting it.

Step 3. Fill and position

Step 3

Scoop all of the material into ONE fang, applying it to the front and back inside of the cap as evenly as possible rather than just filling up the cavity in the fang. we have used and illustration from the instructions for clarity. Gently push the fang all the way up onto your tooth attempting to locate the best position in one motion. DO NOT wiggle, adjust or reposition the fang after you push it all the way up. Leave it on for 5 minutes so that it can harden, but do not remove it yet, do not work on the next fang until 5 minutes have passed so that you do not loosen the first one before it hardens.

Step 4. Fit the second fang

Step 4

With the first fang in place, position the next fang in a mirror. Orient this fang relative to the first so that it has a similar angle and looks natural. After you have practised putting it on accurately follow steps 2 and 3 again.

Removal

Removing the fangs Trim the fangs

The interliner continues to harden even after you have finished fitting your fangs. To prevent them getting stuck to your teeth, remove your fangs to 'break the seal' right after you complete the customizing process on both fangs and then you can put them back on. Gently push your lower teeth forward against the backside of the fang tips until you hear a slight click, for clarity we have used an illustration from the makers instructions. Then wiggle and pull gently with your fingers until they loosen up. It may take a minute the first time you remove them.

If desired, trim off the excess material that shows on the front of the fangs with a nail clipper or nail scissors.

Finished

Fit your fangs correctly

Your fangs will now clip on easily, yet fit snugly. They can be stored in the carrying case and used for years!

Clean out the carrying case thoroughly by cracking and scraping the customizing material out. It may take a few minutes to scrape it out completely.

Realistic Cut Off Finger!

Cut off finger

It is so easy to use the fancydress.com 'cut kit' to make realistic wounds, simply follow the 5 easy steps. There is enough product in the kit to make dozens of wounds, so practice before your event and you'll wow them all!

Step 1. Make a ring of wax

Step 1

Start off by making a ring of wax just below the knuckle on the bent middle finger. Blend the outside edge of the ring of wax into the finger.

Step 2. Make a rough edge.

Step 2

With the tool, hook out the inside of the ring, giving you a jagged edge to the wound.

Step 3. Add the bruising

Step 3

With blue and red make up use a finger and randomly dab on colours to create the 'bruising'.

Finished!

Tissue underneath hides your real finger This effect makes a real impact!

With the wounded finger bent hold a few sheets of tissue paper to cover the rest of the finger. We have added a bit of cotton wool to the center of the wound to hold the blood there, but allow plenty to drip onto the tissue.

Nasty Black Eye!

Realistic Black Eye

First you will need to do a little research.

Take a look on the internet, Google Images Safe-search is always a good place to start. We all know what a bruise looks like, but when you actually come to make up a bruise on your healthy skin you can come unstuck. Look closely at the image; it often has a centre to it and is not just a purple splodge. There can be tones of yellow and greenish areas around the edges.

We are having a go at a black eye using Angels' 8 AQ Colour Makeup Palette. We will be using a little burgundy and white grease paint to start with; you can miss out the white part and follow the remaining steps below to make general bruises wherever you need them.

Step 1. Draw and blend a burgundy line

Step 1

Start with a brush loaded with deep burgundy cream based make up, draw a line of burgundy along the bottom of the eye bag, gently blend the edges of the burgundy so that you do not have a solid line.

Step 2. Enhance light and dark areas.

Step 2

Paint a white line above the red, once you have finished this should look like a raised area, the deep red should look like a sunken area, light and shade (just like in drawing). Then blend this in, as before.

Step 3. Set the colour with dusting powder

Step 3

Cream based make up will smudge unless you set it, so apply translucent dusting powder, work it into the surface of the paint with a powder puff and then brush away any excess.

Step 4. Blend in realistic colours

Step4

Using our water based palette select yellow, green, blue and red. Rub a moist finger into each of the colours until you have collected sufficient shade and then wipe this onto the side of your hand. Clean off your finger and move onto the next colour (otherwise you will make a mess of your palette). You can then mix the colours on the back of your hand as required.

Step 5. Blend in realistic colours

Step 5

Mixing red and blue gives you purple, you can then apply all three colours around the eye. Do not try to be very neat, a bruise is random; also do not cover the whole area in uniform colour.

Step 6. Finish the edges

Step 6

Next work around the edges with green and yellow, a newer bruise will have more red, blue and purple, an older bruise can be more green and yellow.

Finished! Oh, that looks nasty...

Finished!

OUCH!

To remove wash the area with soap and water, remove any creme based make up with cleansing cream or moisturiser.

Smoking is Bad for You!

Convincing 'fag-burn'

One of Angels' staff often has this cigarette burn on the side of their head, because they have been demonstrating it, not because someone has stubbed their cigarette out on them! So they have put together these guidelines to help the more inquisitive customers out! For this effect, you'll need the Angels Cut Kit, Spirit gum and remover, the palette, a cigarette (eww) and a tea-bag.

Step 1. Fix the cigarette in place.

Step 1.

Empty tobacco out from a cigarette by gently rubbing it between your fingers, you need to leave the paper near the filter intact. A little bright red lipstick on the filter tip is a nice touch, if you want to do this now is the time, thoroughly coat your lips in soft lipstick and then put the cigarette in your mouth. Rip off just over half the empty cigarette paper and stub the cigarette out, bending the stub slightly. Use spirit gum both on the end of the cigarette and on the skin. Wait until the two surfaces become tacky and put the stub in position, hold until dry.

Step 2. Roll the wax

Step 2.

Peel and roll some wax from the cut kit (these instructions can be found as step 1 and 2 of our Bullet Wound Guidelines above). Take the rolled sections of wax and position them all the way around the base of the glued-on cigarette, then with a tiny bit of moisturizer on your finger, work around the outside edge to blend the wax into the skin.

Step 3. Add bruising and 'ash'!

Step 3.

Add some bruising around the wound using our palette of water colours. More information about bruising can be found in our black eye instructions above.

An impression of burning and ash can be created by adding a small sprinkle of tea (from a tea bag, loose tea can be too large). This will stick to the surface of the wax.

Step 4. Finished!

Step 4.

Finished
Finally add a small amount of blood (included in the cut kit). This will run out of the wound, so do not add too much.

Removal;
To remove scrape the wax away with the spatula, any moisturiser or cleansing cream will remove any residue of wax, and finally wash with soap and water. Clean away any spirit gum residue with spirit gum remover.

Zombie!

Rotting Zombie Make-up

We have also used the following items: bandages, Coco Pops and a condom. The day before you start working on this look you will need to stain some bandages. We dipped ours into a really strong pot of tea, left them for a moment or two and then hung them outside to dry completely.

The Angels Fancy Dress products you need are: Spirit Gum, Spirit Gum Remover, Light Green, Dark Green, Modelling Tool and Blood.

Step 1. Puffed rice scars

Step 1

Start off by sticking a few Coco Pops on the side of the nose. You could use Rice Krispies, but they will need making up; these are already dark and smell nice. If you stick then in a cluster they will eventually look like a crusty wound.

Step 2. Texture your rotting flesh.

Step 2

Rip up tissues and stick then in patches on the face. You can use as much or as little as you like; think ahead: how much of the face do you think you will be covering with bandages? You could practice the bandaging before you start to give you a better idea. Once the tissue has dried out and is stuck in place you can start adding colour. We have used two shades of green here, but you could use browns or brown and black. Using the back of your hand as a palette you can apply the light and dark green separately or mix them to make a third green. Roughly cover the tissue, leaving some areas white. Also, colour the skin in these areas.

Step 3. Pour some blood under the tissues

Step 3

Let the make up dry and then slide the end of the tool under the tissue to form a little pocket (image top). Slide the dropper of the blood bottle into the top of this pocket and fill it up with blood. This will eventually find its way out of the bottom (image bottom); the blood will also soak through the paper, giving a different texture and finish than just adding blood to the surface.

Step 4. Bandages.

Step4

Bandages: We have brought some crepe bandages and made a strong pot of tea. Dip the bandages into the tea to stain them. Hang them up to dry totally (you will need to do this the day before).

Bandage the head; how much of the face you cover is up to you. Add blood to the bandages and continue to build up the blood under and over the tissue paper.

Step 5. Latex skin flaps...

Step 5

This is an optional extra step. We have taken a condom, opened it up and cut off both ends. If you cut off a section you will end up with a floppy flap that once made up looks like a disgusting flap of skin! Tuck the condom pieces in under the bandages.

Step 6. Make the skin flaps even nastier

Step 6

To make up the skin flaps we have mixed together a little moisturiser, some blood and some Vaseline. Just like the green make up we have not mixed them well, which gives variation in texture and colour. It looks disgusting, but then that's the point!

We have also used the blood as an adhesive to the right of our model's mouth. Once you have added a thick layer of blood, crush up some Coco Pops and stick them to the sticky surface of the blood. This looks like a massive scabby area...

Step 7. All done!

Step 7

Finished!

To remove, unwind the bandages, working on the glued areas with the spirit gum remover. Once everything is loosened, wash the face thoroughly with soap and water. Have another go if there are any areas that have bits of glue remaining and wash again.

Safety Pin Wound!

Safety Pin Wound

This is an eye-catching variation on the slashed wrist make-up. Again, we've used Angels' Cut Kit to achieve this effect plus a few safety pins.

For extra safety, we advise using a drop of superglue to permanently close each safety pin before you apply them

Step 1. Scrape, knead and apply the wax

Step 1

As with the slashed wrist, peel some wax from the tub and kneed it to warm it up. Push it into the heel of your hand and then scrape it off a couple of times until any lumps are smoothed out, but don't overwork it or it will become too light and soft.

Make sure the skin is clean and dry. Apply the wax using the downward-curving, wide flat end of the spatula. Press firmly onto the skin as you drag the tool away from the 'wound'.

Do not try to make one long single wound. Putting it on in sections is easier and when it's finished, it'll look great!

Step 2. Shape the wound

Step 2

With a tiny bit of moisturizer on your finger (to stop the wax from sticking to it), smooth away the edges of the wound. Try and join the wax up, but you don't need to be too precise.

Next, carefully make a 'cut' through the wax.

Step 3. Add the blood

Step 3

Add the blood. This is where the gaps in the wound come into their own. They let the blood dribble down the head, making it look altogether more gory!

Add the safety pins!

And finally...

Add safety pins by pressing them into the surface of the 'wound'. Make sure that the safety pins are firmly closed (we advise glueing them shut). As the pin comes into contact with the wax it will stick. Press the top and the bottom of the pin (well away from the wax) and the pin will sink into the surface of the wound.

To remove, gently pull the pins out of the wax. Gently scrape and wipe the wax away, using a moisturizer or cleanser to remove any sticky residue. Wash the face with soap and warm water.

Zip Wound!

Zip Wound

This nasty wound is made all the more effective because we have used a zip with white material; the light fabric is a massive contrast to all the blood. Start off by cutting away a bit of the spare fabric from the edges of your chosen zip. Paint the back of the zip with an undercoat layer of glue and let this completely dry. The first layer of glue just sinks into the zip. We are using Angels' Cut Kit, a palette, spirit glue and remover.

Step 1. Scrape, knead and apply the wax

Step 1

Apply a layer of glue to the back of the zip and to the area that you want to have the wound. When the glue goes on, it's watery, so leave both areas of glue to go tacky and then stick the zip in position. Be careful, as you'll not be able to adjust its position easily. Hold it in place until it is stuck firmly in place.

Step 2. Shape the wound

Step 2

Rip up some tissue and stick the pieces randomly into the centre of the wound. This does not need to be neat; the tissue will soak up the blood and hold it in place, looking all the more revolting!

Step 3. Add the blood

Step 3

With the tool provided in the Cut Kit scrape some wax from the pack. Apply this to the top edge of the wound (the bottom edge will be covered by the blood). Do not worry if this looks patchy to start with, when you have added enough wax you can blend it. Take a tiny bit of moisturizer (just enough to stop the wax sticking to your fingers) and gently blend the edges of the wax. Again, you don't need to be too neat and tidy, a few gaps are no problem.

Add the safety pins!

Step 4

Using the blue and purple colours from the palette, dab on the colours with your finger and whilst they are wet blend them together a bit to make a bruise.

Step 3. Add the blood

Step 5

This is an optional extra step: Cut up some elastic bands; we have used red ones left by our friendly postman! The elastic bands are tucked into the wound. Just poke them into the glued area, with a dab of glue if required and the zip should hold them. These bits of band look like nasty gristly bits...

Add the safety pins!

Step 6

Add blood to the tissue and let it soak in. Any inaccuracies with your wax work can be covered up with a splurge of blood. Let the blood run from the bottom of the wound. The more blood you add the further it will run, so add a little and then wait until it has run its course, then add some more.

When you want to remove the wound, take cotton wool soaked in the spirit gum remover and GENTLY work along under the wound until the glue has loosened. Re-apply the glue remover until there are no traces of glue left. Moisturiser will loosen the wax on the skin and then wash thoroughly with soap and water.
